A young pharmacist in Busia town stunned his family and neighbours when he returned home from a business trip to Kampala with an elderly European woman as his second wife.
Prior to the incident, Jared had left for Kampala promising to return home in a few days’ time. He had gone to purchase pharmaceutical products for his business.
However, a week elapsed and he was yet to be seen. Panicking, his wife attempted to reach him on his mobile phone to no avail. Just as she was thinking of reporting him as missing to both Kenyan and Ugandan authorities, Jared telephoned her a week later. He said he would be arriving home the following day at noon with a special guest.
Although the wife was not aware of the said guest’s identity, she did not suspect any foul play and prepared a nice meal in readiness for their arrival.
Passionate kisses
The following day, Jared arrived as he had promised with an elderly European woman whom he introduced as Agnes, an Italian residing in Uganda. Even before the wife could digest this piece of information, he added that he and the woman had resolved to wed in a month’s time after dating for over three years
At first, the wife thought it was just a sick joke on her. But she was to discover how wrong she was when Jared embraced his lover and covered her face with passionate kisses.
The horrified wife let out a shriek. Then acting as if possessed, she began to race round the house mumbling unintelligibly. She halted almost immediately and, without any warning, made an attempt to grab the other woman’s neck. However, her assault was deterred by Jared who pushed her to the ground.
"Show Agnes some respect. Were it not for her, all of us would be out in the cold," Jared said, his left hand placed on his lover’s shoulder.
Secret affair
He then narrated how he and the elderly woman had met in Kampala four years earlier while on a business trip and fell in love.
"We have been keeping our affair secret but have now decided to bring it out in the open," he said.
The wife was even more astounded when he revealed that their pharmacy, the food they ate, the clothes they wore and the school fees for their children were all courtesy of the elderly woman.
Feeling defeated, the wife shot up and without uttering any another word hurried into the bedroom. She came out carrying all her possessions.
"I will never step in this house until you have chased away that ugly thing you call a second wife!" she shouted, pointing angrily at her rival.
Untouched by her threats and the presence of neighbours, who had gathered to witness the unfolding drama, Jared ordered his children to follow their mother before locking himself in with the lover.
