Musingu Boys Senior School are the new kings of the Federation of East Africa Schools Association (FEASSA) handball.

This follows their successful campaign at this year’s games that ended on Saturday in Morogoro, Tanzania. Musingu, who had dethroned last year’s winners St Luke’s Kimilili, at the Western Region games, gave a good account of themselves winning all the titles that Kimilili had won at all levels.

On Saturday, they ensured that the regional trophy returned to Kenya as they staged a brilliant show against Uganda’s Wampeewo Ntakke in the final.

In a high-stakes duel, Musingu Tornados remained calm amid the high tension to beat Wampeewo 32-30 and secure their maiden regional gong.

Musingu coach Caleb Simiyu said that they had finally made it happen after several failed attempts.

“I thank my players and the school administration for it’s through their hard work, dedication and support that we celebrate these achievements today. We were not among the favourites to win this title and it feels great to have made every minute on the pitch count,” said Simiyu.

He added that it was not an easy match, but the players kept pushing themselves, for they had a goal to achieve.

“It was a tough encounter. Our opponents pushed us all the way, but we were able to hold our nerve and ensure we went all the way to carry the day,” he added.

Musingu’s success also meant that Kenya will field three boys’ teams at the 2027 East Africa games which will give them an edge over their Ugandan and Tanzanian compatriots, who will field two teams each, according to the new FEASSA rules. St Joseph’s Boys Senior School Kitale defeated Uganda’s Gombe Mixed Secondary School 32-30 to take bronze.

Kenyans surrendered the girls’ trophy won by Moi Girls, who were eliminated by compatriots St Joseph’s Girls Senior School Kitale, who lost to Uganda’s Gombe 27-29 in the final to settle for second best. Kamusinga completed the podium after beating Nyakach Girls 32-26 in the bronze medal match.
