Kenya cruised over Uganda with a 3-0 victory on Day Three of the Billie Jean King Cup Africa Group III Tournament at the Nairobi Club Wednesday.

It's the third victory Kenya is registering in the tournament after edging out Morocco 2-1 on Monday and walloping Botswana 3-0 on Tuesday.

Wimbledon Grand Slam junior doubles champion Angella Okutoyi was flawless in her encounter with Patience Athieno of Uganda.

Kenya's top ranked player showed her power against the hapless Athieno as she won in straight sets of 6-0,6-0.

Inspired by Okutoyi, Cynthia Cheruto took up the cue to beat Winnie Birungi of Uganda 6-3, 6-0.

In the doubles contest, Kenyan duo of Roselida Asumwa and Melissa Mwakha dismissed Athieno and Birungi 6-2, 6-0.

"It's the second game I'm winning and my first singles in the tournament. I feel so good to deliver the results at home because on Monday I told my coach (Francis Rogoi) that I'm confident enough to play the singles," Cheruto told Standard Sports.

Cheruto seemed to have read her opponent well and knew the game won't last for long from her previous experience with Birungi who she has played in other tournaments before.

"From the onset, I was confident of victory. I knew it was not going to be a very tough match, Birungi was not a threat at all," Cheruto said.

"Birungi cannot withstand intensity on the court when you sway the ball at the extreme ends, that's the tactic I was employing and I'm glad it worked."

So far, Cheruto's greatest challenge on the pitch is how to manage the sun which is scorching and affecting her eyes whenever she is serving the ball.

On Monday, Cheruto partnered with Okutoyi to deliver the first doubles home win against Ethiopian duo of Aya El Aouni and Yasmine Kabbaj.

While commenting on her easy stroll over Athieno, Okutoyi said: "The match was not hard at all, I realised she was not a threat so I changed the clash into a practice session.

"I used the opportunity to perfect some of the techniques I'm planning to display against Namibia and Nigeria who we are meeting next."

Okutoyi praised Athieno for her brevity on the court urging the Ugandan to keep on fighting as it's the only way to get her game up.

"Hopefully, in the near future we might play more matches and who knows, she might beat me," said Okutoyi.
