Kakamega Homeboyz stretched their unbeaten run to 10 matches after narrowly defeating defending champions Tusker 1-0 in a rescheduled Football Kenya Federation Premier League match played at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega yesterday.

George Odiwuor’s goal in the fourth minute was enough to hand the Kakamega County-based side all three points and in the process registering their seventh win of the season.

Victory propelled Homeboyz to the summit of the standings as they opened a three-point gap with 24 points. They leapfrogged KCB who are second with 21 points.

Tusker remained 12th in the standings with 10 points after losing their fourth match of the season. They however have two games in hand.

Heading to the game, Homeboyz were in fine form which saw them defeat record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia and were joint top in the log with KCB.

Tusker on the other had a rocky start to the season, they were out to build on a slim 1-0 win against Nzoia Sugar last weekend with pressure mounting on veteran coach Robert Matano to guide the team back to the top.

However, that did not happen after the brewers found themselves trailing inside the opening four minutes of the match.

Odiwuor rose high to convert Sunday Mutuku’s delivery into the box which saw him score his third goal of the season.

The first half goal proved crucial as Homeboyz held on to collect maximum points as they attempt to dethrone Tusker and Gor Mahia who have won the league for the past decade.

The match was initially scheduled for October but had to be penciled to December.
