BARINGO, KENYA: Tension remain high at Kapindasum, Arabal location in Baringo County after armed Pokot raiders attacked a village and escaped with more than 40 heads of cattle.
The more than 30 raiders carried out the attack without firing out even a single shot ironically 300 metres from Arabal General Service Unit (GSU) during the 1am incident.
Interestingly, according to the residents, GSU officers responded to the attack seven hours later.
However, hundreds of residents armed with arrows and bows supported by a handful Kenya Police Reservist managed to trail down the attackers and the animals more than 20 km before they made a recovery. No injuries were reported during the day long confrontation near Mukutani.
The livestock owner, Chebon Chirchir, 81, was locked inside his house from outside at Ngolbelwo by a group of four armed raiders who later fled with the only wealth he possessed after a similar head was driven away few years ago.
The raid took place a few hours ahead of an inter-schools peace forum that was held yesterday amid tight security presence at Kapindasum organised by National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) sponsored through the European Union.
