Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu will appear before the United Democratic Alliance Disciplinary Committee today over her alleged 'shameful' conduct.

The committee chaired by Charles Njenga summoned the senator last year following a viral video in which Nyamu was at a party in Dubai on December 16, 2022.

In a letter dated Monday, December 19, 2022, Njenga summoned the legislator for a disciplinary hearing, saying her conduct brought shame to the party and injured its reputation.

"In the said incident which is well captured on video that has been widely circulated in both mainstream and social media, your conduct and mannerism as exhibited in that incident have brought shame, disrepute and lowered the dignity of the party which nominated you to the office of Senator."

The complainant in the matter, advocate Jephenei Nyakwama, who is also a UDA party member, says Nyamu's actions damaged the moral fabric of society seeing as she is expected to be a role model by virtue of her office.

"The incident that happened in the World's largest commercial hub, Dubai, whose residents are majorly citizens of other states, has greatly lowered the chances of Kenyans whose dream was to be married by citizens of other countries."

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu caused drama at Samidoh's event in Dubai, clashing with his wife Edday Nderitu.

A letter dated December 18, 2022, from the complainant to the Party Leader and Secretary General recommended Nyamu's immediate expulsion.

"The respondent's actions amount to an affront to Articles 10 and 232 (1) of the Constitution and against the principles of good governance, integrity, transparency and accountability."

Nyakwama added that the nominated senator's behaviour falls short of the Leadership and Integrity Act, the General Leadership and Integrity Code and the United Democratic Alliance party Constitution.

He will present video recordings and Facebook screenshots which will act as evidence.
