Police are investigating the killing of a man in an argument over Kisumu Central MP polls.

Peter Adina, 35, died at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital on Wednesday.

He was allegedly stabbed by his friend hours before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Joshua Oron of ODM as the winner.

Adina, who was a resident of Obunga, met his friend Joshua Opondo, 32, at Obunga junction around 8pm on Tuesday and as they discussed expectations of the polls, an argument arose on who between Dr Oron and Fred Ouda would carry the day.

"Joshua drew a knife and stabbed Peter on the left side of the chest. Peter was then rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga teaching and referral hospital (JOOTRH), but died on arrival," read a police report.

On getting information that Adina had succumbed to the injury, agitated residents who had witnessed the incident quickly searched for Opondo and subjected him to mob injustice.

He was however rescued by the police and rushed to the hospital. The officers also recovered the alleged murder weapon - a kitchen knife.

Kisumu Central OCPD Antony Maina Thursday said the matter was under investigation. He added that the body of the deceased has been moved to JOOTRH morgue awaiting postmortem.
