Five people were Saturday killed after a matatu they were traveling in was swept away by floods as River Kuja in Migori County burst its banks following heavy rains.
Deputy County commissioner James Mabeya said the PSV was overpowered by the floods that affected Sori Karungu area of Migori County.

Ten people who were rescued following the accident have been admitted to St. Camilus Sori Hospital. The conductor of the PSV that had 33 people onboard survived.
Rescue operations for the remaining passengers are still ongoing.
Officials from the National Police Service that led the rescue operations said psychological support was being offered to the affected families.
