The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has transferred five senior DCI officers in Nairobi, in changes he said were aimed at boosting operations.

Those moved included Divisional Criminal Investigations Officers (DCIOs) Jeremiah Ikiao (Buruburu), Nyaga Gichungi (Kayole), Ali Bure (Makadara), Daniel Kiptum (Langata) and Douglas Chikanda (Kasarani).

Mandera East DCIO Henry Kiambati was named as the new boss at Makadara. Kinoti did name other successors of the other stations but officials said they will be unveiled this weekend. Tigoni’s Mwenda Ethaiba was moved to Narok in the same capacity in the changes announced on February 6.

Ikiao was elevated and named the Busia County head of DCI.

Kinoti also moved Kiambu County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Amos Tebeny and most of the DCIOs in the area. They were recalled to DCI headquarters following an incident that happened in Tigoni in which some officers were accused of trying to cover up a crime.

More changes are expected in the DCI as the department tries to fit in to a new structure rolled out last year.

The transfers began with the change of the command structure with the collapse of parallel commanders for the Administration Police, Kenya Police and DCI.

The service has been having Assistant Inspector General (AIGs) of the same rank as commanders for regional APS, KPS and DCI commanders, Commissioners of Police as county commanders for APS, KPS and DCI and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) at Sub County level.

Although there will still be senior DCI officers at all levels of command, they will be one rank below their General Duty commander.
