Police believe the letter purporting to expose plans by Mt Kenya leaders to undermine Deputy President William Ruto could be fake.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations cyber-crime department and document examiners are going through the letter purportedly addressed to the President to ascertain its origin.
Though leaders allied to Ruto believe its contents to be fact, detectives have pointed out some glaring anomalies.
For instance, a letter cannot be addressed directly to the President. Instead, protocol dictates that it would have to be written through the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

Detectives have also questioned the language and tone of the letter, noting that the author signed off as "your loyal cabinet secretary".
They pointed out that a letter to the presidency on a Government letter head would not have been printed on white paper but blue or yellow conqueror paper. This includes letters for CSs and principal secretaries.
A genuine letter would not have had more text after the signing off unless to indicate who it was copied to. It would have had “Your Excellency” as salutation instead of “Sir.”
