National Bank of Kenya (NBK) has sued Imenti Central MP Gitobu Imanyara for allegedly failing to repay Sh3 million he owes.

The bank wants the commercial court to enter judgement against Mr Imanyara on account of unpaid loan and interest for Sh2,932,379.

The bank says it advanced the MP a loan of Sh1 million nearly three years ago, which he has declined to pay.

Through its Manager Damaris Gitonya, the bank says Imanyara requested for a loan of Sh1.5 million to pay tuition for his son at Hull University in United Kingdom and he got the Sh1 million.

NBK states Imanyara was to repay the loan in 36 equal monthly instalments of Sh50,000, but to date he not repaid the amount.

MP’s admission

It further states Imanyara has on several occasions admitted owing the bank and a judgement should be entered on that ground.

The bank says Imanyara has also made proposals to repay, which he has not honoured and, therefore, his defence is mere denial.

Court papers state Imanyara operated an account with the bank along Harambee Avenue and secured the loan with two vehicles.

They say the legislator defaulted and has also made it difficult for the bank to repossess and sell the said securities.

The MP has denied owing the bank any money.

On Monday, Justice Martha Koome fixed the hearing for March 4, next year.
