President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday presented the Kenya Olympic team with the national flag and a resounding message —go to Brazil and conquer the world.
With that inspiring message, the first batch of sportsmen who leave for Rio tomorrow should be well motivated ahead of the world’s most competitive games which start on August 5.
No doubt the team will be under enormous pressure — but these sportsmen and women need not worry. They have the talent and experience to hold their own with the knowledge that the rest of country is behind them.
Sticky issues in the past — such as lack of proper kit, and unpaid allowances — are not dogging the team’s preparations this time.
This is the way things should be in the next few weeks, and team officials must ensure that nothing is done during this period to jeopardise the squad’s preparations.
