An agency has raised alarm over the alleged excision of Karura Forest by a private developer. Greenbelt Movement that is associated with late Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai claimed there are plans to build a resort in the forest, which is a public land.
"A new threat has emerged 17 years later and there is a plan to develop 25 acres of Sigiria Block in the forest for commercial use," reads a statement by the agency in part.
They have launched an online petition, where those opposed to irregular development in the forest can sign.
"We are calling on all the relevant authorities and the international community to oppose the move," said the agency.
