Persistence and commitment finally paid off for Henry Kamuti as he won the Captain (Anik Patel) prize 2023 at VetLab Sports Club over the weekend.
Kamuti, who has been enjoying a good run at the club-level competitions, bagged the overall title as curtains fell on the week-long celebration that marked the end of Captain Anik’s term as Captain of the century-old club.
Anik who was the youngest person to occupy the Captaincy at the age of 27 years, has left a rich legacy of a robust and well-structured junior program that will oversee the training of juniors at different levels and age groups to ensure continuity in churning out future champs under the club's junior program.
He was also instrumental in ensuring that Vet Labs Golf Course was elevated to a championship course by upgrading its infrastructure which included, installation of reserve water tanks for course irrigation and paving of walkways with cabro.
“It has been long coming but thanks to the practice sessions and resolve that I can also do it, I was able to conquer,” said Kamuti.
Playing off handicap 21, Kamuti posted a differential score of 69-37=32 to return the lowest differential score that handed him with the coveted prize and bragging rights.
Overall winner second prize went to Purav Patel, playing off handicap 18, after carding a differential score of 71-38=33.
Saturday Men winner prize went to Manav Shah, playing off handicap 16, who returned a solid score of 40 stableford points to deny Paul Okoth the honours on a better countback score. Okoth was Saturday Men winner second.
Former lady captain Racheal Ndei was the fairest among the ladies on the fairways winning the winner prize on a decent score of 36 stableford points, while current captain Priscila Karobia was second on a score of 36 stableford points.
Top among the guests was Kushil Shah on a score of 37 stableford points ahead of Guest second winner Mike Lucas, who carded 36 stableford points.
Peter Muiruri was Senior winner (65 years and above) playing off handicap 19 with 37 stableford points.
Adrian Mwangi was Junior winner with a score of 31 stableford points. George Mburu won Longest Drive Men prize and Hellen Manyara won Longest Drive Lady winner prize.
Eric Karuga dialed in his tee shot to take Closest to the Pin Men winner prize, with Mercy Nyanchama winning Closest to the Pin Lady winner prize.
At Ruiru Sports Club, home golfer John Njenga emerged as the overall winner of Old Mutual Golf Day. Njenga playing off handicap 14, combined 22 and 18 stableford points for a total score of 40 stableford points to floor a field of 184 golfers.
Kimani Munyua, playing off handicap 19, took the men’s winner prize after carding an equally impressive score of 39 stableford points to beat handicap 3 Raphael Lemingani on countback with the same score of 39 stableford points.
Donning the Lady’s medal was Agnes Mwaura, playing off handicap 28. She had a score of 35 stableford points, while Liz Mwaura took the Lady winner second prize on a better countback score of 35 stableford points.
In the Nines, L Wachira won the First Nine Men winner prize with 21 stableford points. Mathenge Wanyiri was the Second Nine Men winner with 20 stableford points.
In the lady’s category, Lucy Wangari bagged the First Nine Lady winner prize on a score of 20 stableford points as Caroline Njeru, with 18 stableford points, finished second.
