Liverpool came out on top in the Europa League Battle of Britain as their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford gave them a comfortable 3-1 win over bitter rivals Manchester United .
Anthony Martial had given the hosts hope, when he converted a penalty in the 32nd minute after he was brought down by Nathaniel Clyne in the box.
But Liverpool re-established their two-goal advantage - and crucially got an away goal - when Phillippe Coutinho skipped down the left win, beat Guillermo Valela with ease and dinked the ball past De Gea.
A listless second-half display from the hosts saw them unable to trouble Jurgen Klopp's men, who will now go into Friday's quarter-final draw.
