Worried he would be duped by a bogus lawyer, last month our reader, Mr Martin Makundi, visited the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) website, www.lsk.or.ke, to check the members directory. He was disappointed.
All he got was a promise that the list would soon be provided and a message trumpeting LSK’s commitment to uphold integrity in the legal profession. That prompted him to write to PointBlank on September 4, seeking assurances that LSK was not withholding information to protect wayward members (‘Give us licensed lawyers list, LSK’).
Public information
We reminded LSK of the request on October 2 (Don’t You Forget: ‘Is list of licensed lawyers least of LSK’s worries?’). Well, last week the roll, which can be accessed through a search engine, was posted on the LSK website.

Information provided includes whether a listed lawyer is active, inactive, suspended, struck off or deceased. Physical and postal addresses and reference numbers (P105) are also provided. We hope other professional bodies will follow this bold move by providing such crucial public information.
