August 21, 2017 - Elected governor, deputized by Polycarp Igathe

January 12, 2018- Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe resigns, cites frustrations

December 6, 2019- Sonko arrested in Voi over the loss of Sh357m county funds

July 24, 2020 - High Court rules governors facing graft charges should step aside

December 20, 2019- Court of appeal upholds order barring him from office

December 11, 2019- Court bars Sonko from office over graft charges in Sh357 million scandal

January 6, 2020 – Sonko nominates Anne Kananu Mwenda as deputy governor, DPP terms move illegal

January 2020- Several petitions filed against the nomination of Anne Kananu Mwenda as deputy governor

9th January, 2020- Nairobi County speaker informs the Assembly that she had received notification of the nomination

22nd January, 2020- Name of the Nominee committed to the committee for vetting and reporting

17th February, 2020-High Court issues conservatory orders in Peter Odhiambo Agoro VS Ann Kananu Mwenda and other parties to prevent committee from proceeding with the vetting process

February 25, 2020 – Sonko signs away control of key county functions

June 18, 2020 – Court declares Deed of Transfer of Functions ‘vague and irregular’

July 25, 2020 – Sonko withdraws from agreement transferring county functions to NMS

September 17, 2020- Court rules NMS was properly established

December 5, 2020 – Nairobi resident Peter Agoro withdraws petition against Anne Mwenda Kananu nomination

December 17, 2020 – Governor Mike Sonko impeached, faced 11 charges

December 21, 2020 – Nairobi County Speaker Benson Mutura sworn in as acting governor for a period of 60 days, after Senate voted to uphold the impeachment of Mr Sonko by Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs)

December 21, 2020 – IEBC gazettes February 18, 2021, as by-election date

January 4, 2021 - Court suspends by-election scheduled for February 18, 2021

January 7, 2021 – Mike Sonko files petition against the appointment of Anne Kananu as deputy governor

January 15, 2021- Ann Kananu takes the oath of office as the deputy governor Nairobi county

January 18, 2021 – Court stops swearing-in of Anne Kananu as Nairobi governor

July 7th 2021- Court of Appeal has issued orders stopping Nairobi deputy governor Anne Kananu’s swearing-in as the city County governor after ousted Sonko appealed

October 25 2021- Supreme Court suspends planned swearing-in of acting Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu as the city-county boss, for two weeks, following an application by former governor Mike Sonko to the apex court.

November 9, 2021- Supreme Court dismisses application by Sonko challenging her appointment

November 16, 2021- Anne Kananu sworn in as Nairobi County governor
