Boda boda operators in Nairobi will now be wearing branded reflector jackets bearing their unique registration numbers.

The campaign to brand the riders is sponsored by the Boda Boda Association of Kenya in a bid to make it easier to identify boda boda operators in the city.

“Bodaboda riders must be identified, that’s why we are giving them branded reflectors with reflective registration numbers,” Boda Boda Association of Kenya chairman Kevin Mubadi said. “This is also to ensure the good welfare of boda boda riders, because for so long we have been neglected by the government and other motorists.”

The registration numbers will enable the public and boda boda users to obtain information about a rider such as the name, ID number, motorbike registration number among other details.

To be able to access the information, however, one will have to visit the Boda Boda Association website and key in the registration number of the rider for them to get information about the particular operator.

The move also aims to sanitize the boda boda industry from criminal gangs masquerading as boda boda operators, tarnishing the reputation of straightforward riders out to eke out a living.
