An Embu MCA left his colleagues in stitches after he challenged them to get degrees in preaching and casting out demons to avoid embarrassment at the ballot box in 2022.
Runyenjes Central MCA Steve Simba said that although MCAs were not expected to practically cast out demons, degrees in theology would guarantee qualification to vie for elective posts.
He encouraged ward reps to consider pursuing degrees in Early Childhood Development (ECD), theology and other courses that would ensure they are not locked out of the race come 2022, adding that they could pursue courses that don’t need a lot of mental engagement.
The MCA further said degrees in theology would also save Embu County from embarrassment the county faces when bizarre happenings from that region hit news headlines.
“Look at what happened when one of our pastors tried to resurrect his dear wife from the dead!” he said.
Lack of proper religious exposure is pushing the county towards evil powers, Simba said, adding that commercial exorcists do not have correct skills to cast out demons.
“They risk being possessed or unleashing mystical powers on the entire community just like the seven biblical sons of Jewish priest Sceva who were overpowered by the evil spirits they were supposed to cast out,” Simba said.
But besides acquiring papers for political reasons, the MCA said it was also important for elected leaders to support education, set good examples to society and act as role models for youngsters in the county by acquiring academic papers.
“The drama surrounding Ali Hassan Joho’s academic certificates ought to be a lesson on how highly placed leaders in society can lose respect of their electorate due to weak or forged academic papers,” he said.
