It is a day Kenya’s most prolific politician Raila Amolo Odinga shares his birthday with amongst many, award winning journalist Jeff Koinange and the bonafide dance-hall king, Vybz Kartel .
The hashtag #HappyBirthdayRaila gave an opportunity for Kenyans on social media to celebrate the ODM leader’s 72nd birthday, having defined Kenyan politics for decades.
Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho led a brigade comprising members of the Orange Democratic Movement who threw a surprise party for Odinga in Ghana where he had gone to attend the inauguration ceremony of Nana Kuffor Addo.
#HBDJeffKoinange was also popular. Jeff Koinange, an award winning journalist and media personality was also turning 51.

Dancehall has a sizeable following in Kenya. It is thus not surprising that Kenyans did not forget Adidja Azim Palmer popularly known as Vybz Kartel who also turned 41.
Kartel is incarcerated in Jamaica, serving a life sentence for murder since 2014. He will be eligible for parole after serving 35 years.
He has however continued to rule the airwaves behind bars and become a force beyond the prison walls.
