Kenyan deejay George Waweru aka deejay Kalonje known for his wicked mixes celebrated his 29th birthday in style last Friday night at Club Sevens Lounge Moi Avenue. During the event a super excited Kalonje could not hold back his joy.
“I am thrilled and grateful for another great year that the Lord has given me. It is a chance for another great partnership with you. I thank you all for taking time to come and support me in ushering into another new year in my life,” he said, amidst cheers.
A number of celebrities were in attendance. They include deejays Sadiq, Moh, Katta, Nice, Ediifice, Andy, Pierra, Ebony, Steve Junior, Kris Baibe, emcees Tony Boy, Jose, just to name a few.
By 7 pm the well set up club was abuzz with revelers from all walks of life who came in to watch some of Kenya’s favourite mix-masters do their thing in a bid to support one of their own.
In the meantime, some of Kalonje’s popular Street Locked mixes were played setting the mood for party.
With given time, emcees Tony Boy and Jose took to stage and introduced each of the deejays present who used the opportunity to do their thing on stage. Their best mix of music kept fans dancing to their feet all night long as they waited for the man of the moment.
The moment Kalonje was introduced on stage – the crowd went wild. A group of youthful ladies could be heard shouting his name… with others trying hard to surge forward before they were stopped by the security.
As usual the 2010 CHAT Award winner Kalonje lived up to his billing by spinning a variety of different music genres ranging from bongo flava, dancehall, kenyan pop, rapping, reggae and riddim.
Meanwhile, at one corner a group of youth could be seen dancing to some of the latest style as they try outdoing each to see who emerges the best.
Even when his time was up- fans demanded more of Kalonje and he gave them exactly that.
Long way to stardom:
Dubbed one of the youngest and illest deejays, Kalonje is a man olf many faces. Apart from spinning he is also an Audio and Video Editor, Mixologist, Event Organizer, Hype DJ and VJ and CEO Mixxmasters Entertainment who runs a deejay academy in Nairobi Kenya.
The internationally recognized deejay who is credited for having revolutionized various genres of music that became a must listen besides dominating local matatus plying different routes in Kenya won two CHAT awards for Best deejay in 2010 and another in 2011 for Matheree awards of Kenya.
According to Kalonje this year has been a busy one for him despite the fact that many feel that he has been on the low musically.
“Let’s just say that I have been busy performing in various countries across the world besides embarking on some of my personal project. This however, does not mean that I am out and down as suggested by a sections of critics. For me my career is a long process which requires time and proper research in order to come up with something good,” he says.

The revered mix master officially released his first single in 2015 dubbed 'Othongi Muno' ( A Meru term meaning beautiful) that became a local and international hit despite the language barrier that saw him tour the world in particular East Africa, Austria, USA, Europe and Dubai.
The song sang in Meru and Swahili languages centers around a certain beautiful woman that got many wondering if Kalonje would be slowly falling in love.
