An Administration Police officer was Sunday killed and his gun stolen in an ambush by armed gangsters in Machakos town.
The corporal, attached to the home of a judge in Miwani, Machakos, was guarding the house at 9.30pm when the gang pulled up at the gate, gunned him down and took away his rifle, police said.
AP Commander Augustine Changalwa said it was just after the judge's son arrived home and called his wife to open the gate that the officer let him in.
"After the vehicle got in, the officer returned to close the gate and the killers shot him at close range, killing him instantly. They took away his gun," said Changalwa.
He said the gang later went to a nearby estate, Kanaan, and terrorised the residents but no casualties were reported. "This is the second similar incident in that particular area within less than a week," he said.
