Prosecute those who tortured Matiba, state told

Senators were yesterday united in paying tribute to the fallen political icon Kenneth Matiba.

They asked the State to arrest and prosecute people who participated in his torture and illegal detention.

Minority Leader Senator James Orengo (Siaya) and Minority whip Mutula Kilonzo Jnr (Makueni) heaped praise on the fallen veteran, saying he put the country first and therefore it was time for his family to get justice.

Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen (Elgeyo Marakwet) called for a review of the country’s historical curriculum to document the contributions of second generation heroes. “Our history is not well documented, our curricula should be reoriented to recognise such heroes,” said Mr Murkomen.

While conveying his condolence message, Speaker Kenneth Lusaka described Matiba as a gallant politician whose contribution to the ideals of democracy cannot be ignored.

Meanwhile, shareholders of Wangu Embori Farm plan to hold prayers for their departed chairman tomorrow.

The shareholders will hold prayers at their Murang’a Frose offices as the State coordinates burial arrangements, according to the farm’s vice chairman George  Mwithi.
