Former Kakamega County Senator Boni Khalwale on Tuesday 9 January condemned a section of National Super Alliance (NASA) Coalition Senators for attempting to swear-in the opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The former Senator said that by doing so (swearing-in Raila), Kenyans will take coalition members as jokers, citing that Raila’s swearing-in is a ‘serious, formal & dignified solemn national issue’.
“I personally believed that swearing in Raila Odinga was a serious, formal & dignified solemn national issue, complete with the constitutional and legal protocol. Now with these senators purporting to conduct the exercise in Kakamega, Kenyans must be forgiven if they take us for jokers!” Mr. Khalwale posted on his Twitter handle.

Mr. Khalwale’s remarks come at the height of political uncertainty as many of Raila’s supporters wait for him to swear himself in as the people’s president. The NASA leader has mentioned the date for the twice-postponed event on January 30.

Raila Odinga while Speaking in Kakamega County on Sunday 7 January dared the Government to arrest him and NASA leaders after the inauguration ceremony.
"On January 30, I will be sworn in and this time it's a real deal and anyone saying its treason let him come and arrest us. The event is not only about carrying the Bible and saying 'I swear', we want to make it real. We want this swearing-in process to be inclusive of all Kenyans. That's why we are discussing before we go ahead,” said the Opposition Chief.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala on behalf of Members of Parliament (MPs) and Senators gifted Raila the Holy Book during his 73rd birthday on January 7 and asked him to take oath ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.
