We are heading to the August General Elections this year. Every political leader, Religious and even different actors are calling for the same. We are all requesting for the product we are not concerned about the process to get PEACE. Peace is a product of a credible, transparent and verifiable process.
I caution the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to use proper communication to the citizens instead of using political actors. Many citizens seem not sure of what is going on despite seeing several adverts and flyers on television. Managing elections needs public trust and participation. As we preach peace in rallies, meetings and churches, there is need for institutional transformation and building the image of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Communication to the political parties and citizens need to be enhanced and moreso the process needs to be transparent. This way they are supposed to involve all the actors to avoid doubt or uncertainty of the elections. I have been doing voter education and many voters seem not convinced that there will be free and fair elections. This is a critical moment for our country. In future, I urge the electoral body to start voter education early enough and procurement of election materials is transparent and participatory.
