Tear gas clouds Gor-Ulinzi tie, Tusker lose
Waruru denies Zico first win with brace but chaos reigns as champions beaten.
Kenyan Premier League giants Gor Mania squandered an opportunity to open a two-point lead at the top after sharing the spoils with Ulinzi Stars in a match marred by acts of hooliganism at Moi Stadium in Kisumu yesterday.
On-form Kenyan international Stephen Waweru hit a brace as the Soldiers came from two goals down to deny Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno his first win since succeeding Brazilian Jose Ze Marie a few weeks ago.
Bandari had done K’Ogalo a favour by stunning Tusker 1-0 to end their eight matches unbeaten run, only for Waruru to take his goals tally to ten this season with a late equaliser deep into injury time.

The game was temporarily stopped for over ten minutes after Waruru’s equaliser as police engaged rowdy Gor fans in running battles.
Gor had taken the lead through Karim Nizigiyamana’s 32nd minute effort before Ulinzi defender Mohammed Hassan scored into his own net.
The highly charged game that nearly saw experienced Ulinzi fullback Geoffrey Kokoyo and Gor centre half Wellington Ochieng fight after Waruru appeared to elbow Rwandan import Jacques Tuyisenge.
K’Ogalo started the game on a high note giving Ulinzi goalkeeper James Saruni and his back four a tough time.
But after their persistent attacks, Gor finally got the breakthrough when Nizigiyimana danced through the soldiers’ back line before beating Saruni.
Hassan handed Gor the second goal after scoring in his own net while trying to make a clearance.
However, Ulinzi made a dramatic come back with Waruru the main architect with his celebration after the equaliser irritating the home fans, who went on to throw projectiles onto the pitch.
In Meru, new signing Cosmas Lewis’ 27th minute strike is all that Bandari needed to beat champions Tusker.
Tusker will have themselves to blame after missing scoring opportunities against their former coach Paul Nkata’s side. The defeat saw Tusker and Gor Mahia go level on points (28), but the 15 time champions have a better goal difference.
In the other matches, Mathare United were held to a barren draw by new comers Zoo Kericho in Kericho.
Posta Rangers and Chemelil Sugar played out to a 1-1 draw at Afraha Stadium as Kakamega Homeboyz silenced their hosts Sony Sugar 1-0 in Awendo.
After a barren first half, John Mwita put Chemelil on the driving seat in the 88th minute only for new signing Kennedy Otieno to cut his celebration short with an equaliser in added time.
