K’Ogalo will need to be at their best to get past sugar millers in Thika.

After defeating rivals AFC Leopards at the weekend, Gor Mahia must prove this was not just about bragging rights.

Gor produced one of the best performances this season when they beat Leopards 3-0. But today they face a tricky midweek game against Chemelil Sugar in Thika, in one of the eight scheduled KPL matches.

Bandari host Nzoia United at Mbaraki, Kakamega Homeboyz take on Western Stima in Mumias, Muhoroni Youth and Posta Rangers face off in Muhoroni, Nakumatt play Thika United at Ruaraka grounds, while Sofapaka meet Ulinzi Stars in Machakos.

The other games pit Sony Sugar against AFC Leopards in Awendo, while Tusker visit Zoo Kericho.

But focus will be on how Gor Mahia build on the performance against AFC Leopards.

It will also be interesting to see if Ingwe will fight back after the poor show against Gor when they take on Sony Sugar.

Gor Mahia produced a class act on Sunday.

They were dominant in midfield against Ingwe and their finishing was near perfect.

However, Chemelil Sugar will be a different ball game. The conditions will be totally different.

While Ingwe played an open game, Chemelil are known for keeping it tight, especially against an opponent like Gor Mahia. The 15-time champions will be missing the unwavering support of their 12th man, given that it is a mid-week clash.

That notwithstanding, Gor Mahia start as favourites and will be keen to replicate the same show as Sunday’s.

Kenneth Muguna, Ernest Wendo and Godfrey Walusimbi are sure starters and coach Jose Marcello Ferreira ‘Ze Maria’ should be able to start Francis Kahata on the left, should George Odhiambo fail to recover from a knock he sustained against Ingwe.

The attacking pair of Meddie Kagere and Timothy Otieno partner once again, while nothing needs to change in the defence of Musa Mohammed, Haron Shakava, Wellington Ochieng and Karim Nzigiyimana.

But Gor defence must be wary of the experienced Hillary Echesa, who has lifted the sugarmillers on several occasions.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards could not land a shot on target against Gor Mahia, but face a Sony Sugar side that seems to have forgotten how to win matches, even at home.

This is a match Stewart Hall should use to regain confidence for his side.

“It is important for us to win this one. I will ring in some changes and hope all goes well,” Hall said.

Posta Rangers will be seeking to maintain their unbeaten run, but it will be another real test for them against Muhoroni Youth.

The Mailmen have been squeezing 1-0 wins that have worked to their advantage as they sit comfortably at the top.

It will also be interesting to see how Sofapaka haul themselves from the weekend loss to Posta Rangers when they face Ulinzi Stars.
