Can Kenya afford salaries demanded?

Workers in Kenya have been going on strike for better pay. First it was the teachers who wanted a 300 per cent pay rise that was resolved following an agreement. But this year has been the worst of them all.

Workers in the health and education sectors have downed their tools demanding the fulfillment of their collective bargaining agreements.

The nurses had threatened to boycott work if they were not paid but the doctors and university lecturers have made good their threat.

The Government has tried negotiations using all its resources but no positive feedback has been achieved.

The economy of the country is failing and there is a huge foreign debt.
