A keen look into the forthcoming 2017 general elections leaves me worried. Listening deeply to sentiments made recently by the opposition chief in public tells me that all is not well. Raila claims that he will win by hook and crook. He moves on and assures his supporters that winning this time is not an option.
But is Uhuru willing to let go? Of course no, we can't expect to witness what happened in Nigeria. Uhuru knows that being a one term president will forever spoil his legacy. It is however clear that Jubilee learned a tactic or two in the just concluded Uganda's general election.
This means that if jubilee employs the famous ‘Museveni tactic’ of locking up the opposition chief and ensuring that his supporters are intimidated, he could get another term. This tactic worked at its best in Uganda and being applied in Kenya will not be a problem considering that the government controls the machinery.
Besigye could not coordinate his team and thus lost the election. If this tactic is employed thus infers that Raila's "crook" part of winning the elections will not apply. The opposition supporters may not reluctantly watch this and sit. Raila will not be giving up his last chance easily. This may take us to a worse situation compared to what we saw in 2007.
My advice to fellow peace loving Kenyans is that we should not be divided by ethnic based politicians. Let us embrace brotherhood. We live in very poor conditions. These politicians live in big houses and drive big cars. These guys don't even know if we exist yet we still kill each other because of them. There is life beyond politics and ethnicity. There is more to enjoy in life than watching your tribal chiefs who don't impact your lives in the helm of power. Peace is the message!
