Kenyans have short memory

I have noted that most Kenyans have short memory.

Perhaps I should start with a statement by US diplomat Johnnie Carson who said that “choices have consequences” just before Kenyans held their 2013 General Election. Kenyans only made fun of the statement at that time and have only recalled it when reality has sunk in.

In July this year, US President Barack Obama visited the country. I am sure Kenyans, as victims of short memory, can only remember the Beast and may be the infamous Kidero grass. Most cannot recall his concerns on corruption and economic inequalities.

They can’t recall how Obama attacked tribalism and ethnicity as being part of our big problems.

Of course they can’t recall how greed for power among politicians has left wounds in the lives of common mwananchi.

Politicians want leadership through hook and crook, most often leading to tribal clashes and looting Government resources.

We celebrated Obama’s speeches, we even ran them over and over again in media but who can still remember it? Or may be in other terms, has it changed anything in Kenya?

President Uhuru Kenyatta responded to Obama’s concerns by giving a public relations speech on how he was going to address corruption.

Pope Francis has been here. The normal excitement is still in the air. He raised similar issues like Obama, but using a rather soft language.

However, we shall also forget. The corrupt will still want to amass more filthy lucre. I can only but cry for this nation.
