Kenya: Harambee Stars’ match against Zambia’s Chipolopolo left me gutted. What I had anticipated to be a great match ended in a disappointment after the national team surrendered a one goal lead to succumb to a two goal defeat in front of home fans.
Like many other fans who thronged the Nyayo National Stadium in thousands to cheer the stars, I feel let down. Kenyans had a good week after conquering the world in Beijing and the icing on the cake was Harambee Stars wrapping up a win against Zambia. The aftermath of the loss has drawn mixed reactions from Kenyans. Coach Bobby Williamson’s reign is under scrutiny having not won a single match since he succeeded Adel Amrouche.
Perhaps it is wrong to blame the coach but his selection tactics cost us the game. To begin with, the team had been in training for less than a week. The team had not gelled well, and the selection also elicits a few questions.
Dennis Oliech and Allan Wanga have not played for quite a while. Paul Were probably was forced off due to lack of match fitness. As much as Oliech is a proven lethargic striker, it is high time he should hang his boots on the international arena.
The team needs our support. Even though the players disappointed, they still have a chance to rise up and get something from the remaining fixtures.
