Preparations for the 12th memorial service for former Vice President Michael Wamalwa Kijana, which will be held next Saturday in Kitale, kicked off yesterday with a series of events in London.
A group of family members led by Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa converged in London for a memorial service at the Royal Free Hospital Chapel in Hampstead, London.
Dr Mukhisa Kituyi, the UNCTAD secretary general and a cousin to the former Vice President and Wamalwa's widow Yvonne Nambia, Wamalwa's son Jabali, daughter Chichi and grandchildren Malaika and Simiyu were also present.
Some members of the family were also expected to visit the Royal Hospital, London where the former MP for Saboti died in August 2003.
The group was expected to depart London last evening for Nairobi and then head to Kitale for preparations of the memorial service to be held at his home.
