House team ordered to investigate hiring of 60

Assembly Speaker Gathii Irungu has ordered the Committee on Public Service and Administration to visit the County Public Service Board offices to inspect documents that led to the hiring of 60 ward administrators.

The speaker made the ruling after Ngewa MCA Karungo wa Thang'wa made a request that the committee establishes the criteria used to hire the employees. He claimed the exercise was flawed.

The committee is expected to visit the offices within 21 days for inspection and later the chairman will table its findings in the assembly.

The MCA had requested for the statement on March 4, 2015 concerning the recruitment of ward administrators, but a response issued by Public Service and Administration Chairman Mutonya Njenga on April 1 was not comprehensive.

In its response, the board had indicated that the requested document is 15,000 pages long and contained in 34 box files.

However, it noted that in the event there was need for inspection, the board was ready and willing to accommodate the committee in accordance with section 68 of the County Government Act.

Mr Thang'wa express dissatisfaction over the response because he wanted various documents produced but this did not happen.

Its is alleged that some of the ward administrators who were given the job by Governor William Kabogo did not meet the qualifications, and were only being rewarded for campaigning for him in the 2013 General Election.

"It is going to be a rigorous exercise but the public must know the truth. The public should be present as we scrutinise these documents," said Thang'wa.
