Disabled teachers have been urged to register with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities so as to benefit from Sh15,000 monthly facilitative allowance.
Bomet Kenya National of Union of Teachers Executive Secretary Malel Langat said the Salaries and Remuneration Commission last year approved the payment, but only to those who register with the council.
"Once registered, these teachers will have their retirement age extended to 65, and will also be provided with assistance equipment," said Mr Langat during the branch's Annual General Meeting.
Langat also called on Teachers Service Commission to post teachers on wheelchairs to schools that have friendly structures, such as ramps.
"Posting them to institutions that are hard to access will be further entrenching discrimination," he said.
