The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) may recall retired teachers back to service in North Eastern.
In a desperate move to bridge the gap left after more than 1,000 teachers refused to return to the region over insecurity, the commission has directed officials in Wajir, Garissa and Mandera to furnish it with data of serving, retired and graduate teachers.
An internal memo sent to the three TSC county directors directed them to urgently forward data on teachers in their respective counties who are willing to teach in the region.
The memo signed by Mrs Mary Rotich on behalf of Director Teacher Management, further called for data of retired teachers who could be willing to be re-engaged back in service.
“You should also provide data of untrained graduate teachers with two teaching subjects willing to be employed by the commission,” read the memo in part.

Mrs Rotich further instructed the directors to furnish the commission with data of graduate teachers in primary schools with two teaching subjects willing to be transferred to secondary schools.
“Further to this you are requested to send to the commission data of graduate teachers with grade C plain in KCSE or C plain in teaching subjects,” the memo stated.
This comes after the Labour Court gave TSC 30 days to reach an out of court settlement with the teachers who have defied orders to return to their stations.
The more than 1,000 teachers have expressed fears that their lives are at risk due to the insecurity in the three counties.
Knut Secretary General Wilson Sossion has maintained that the teachers be transferred from the three counties.
