Professional golfer Richard Ainley of Nakuru scored a total gross of 144 (75,69) after a 36 hole grueling competition at the par 73 Nakuru Golf course to emerge the winner of the Kenya Airways Professional Golf Series at the weekend.
For his victory, took home Sh72,800. Muthaiga’s Nicholas Rokoine scored a total of 148 gross, tying with Dismas Indiza of Mumias for each to pocket Sh43,400.
Kenya Airways (KQ) Technical Director Tom Kadoyo in a speech read on his behalf by Evans Kihara said: “We are keen on this market especially for our customers in this part of the country who use KQ to import or export their products.”
E Ooko, Royal’s Greg Snow and Thika’s Simon Ngige each pocketed Sh25,500 after tying on 149 gross.
Eldoret’s Boniface Simwa was seventh with a gross total of 150 (79,71) ahead of Nakuru’s James Lorum and David Wakhu of Royal who all tied on 151 gross.
Among amateurs, Handicap Four Sarat Singh scored a total of 40 points (19+21) to emerge the overall winner in a tight race graced by 152 golfers.
Joseph Gathumbi scooped three titles. He emerged men’s winner with a total of 39 stableford points (20+19) before clinching the longest drive and the nearest to the
pin titles to the surprise of many golfers during the tenth leg of KQ Golf
Safari Series. Gathumbi and Muiruri each received a return air tickets to any
destination in Africa.
Felix Muiruri was runners up with a total of 38 stable ford points beating father P. Gichuhi by a point to the third spot.
LADY WINNER
Josephine Wangari emerged the lady winner with a total of 40 stable points beating Mary Kiruthi who scored 34 points (16+18) to the runner up position.
Kevin Smith was the guest winner on 35 stableford points. Anoop Sahota posted 35 points to emerge the junior winner. Josephine Kaime won the longest drive lady title.
Meanwhile, Ian Marshall posted an excellent score of 33 points to emerge the overall winner of the Captain’s 2014 Prize golf tournament at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club course in Mombasa on Sunday.
The tournament, which attracted 150 golfers from Nyali, Mombasa, Leisure, Malindi and Vipingo, was organised to bid farewell to the outgoing club Captain Sammy Kamau.
Playing off handicap 17, Marshall sank a rare birdie on the shortest par three-10th hole, leveled seven pars, but blanked the par five-fifth hole with a mixed bogey shots on the rest of the 18 holes to claim the lead.
“I’m excited, it’s my first 2015 victory and obviously things might continue to be better,” said Marshall.
Gurbux Singh, playing off handicap 4, was the runner up on 36 points in the event which saw handicap 12 Lumatete Muchai finish third on 40 points.
Handicap 19 Saida Samji claimed the ladies’ title on 28 points, while handicap 17 Jane Mburu was the runner up on 25 points, a point ahead of third placed handicap 19 Kellen Weku.
Junior winner was Agil Is Haq on 47 points. John Riley claimed the same for the seniors on 42 points.
The Abdallah Bekah Memorial Golf tournament played at 71 Muthaiga Golf Course on Saturday was won by handicap 26 Rafael Jabba on a score of 41 points.
Despite blanking two holes, and playing a mixed pot of bogey shots, Jabba however raised his stakes by playing an eagle shot on par four-ninth hole and leveling three pars.
“It was great luck playing an eagle, its not easy, but I thank God,” said Jabba.
Thomas Parkinson, playing off handicap 20, was the Men winner on 39 points (21-18), while handicap 18 JT Thagana was the runner up on 38 points (20-18).
Nadir Jessa, playing off handicap 20, was third on 37 points (15-22).
Handicap 7 Florence Maina claimed the lady prize on 34 points (17-17) while Sonal Chandaria, playing off 26, was second on 30 points (15-15).
Emmanuel Njugu, playing off handicap 25, was the Junior winner 39 points (18-21) while handicap 10 AN Mutugi claimed the guest title on 30 points (17-12).
The Staff prize went to handicap 13 Wachira Nderitu on 29 points (17-12).
