Samburu East MP Julius Letimalo has asked Archers Post residents to remain calm following a raid that left a young woman and her child dead.
About 30 raiders invaded Nakuamur village in the area on Sunday evening and shot the woman who was milking after returning family animals from the grazing fields.
Mr Letimalo, who urged his residents not to retaliate, blamed security personnel for laxity in the insecurity-prone area bordering Samburu and Isiolo counties.
"The national government should be serious with the security of all residents," he said, adding that a 12-year-old boy is still missing.
According to the MP, the raiders stole 20 goats and 10 cows.
