NAIROBI, KENYA: The legal instrument appointing Deputy President William Ruto Acting President expired Wednesday evening at 6pm, consequently Uhuru Kenyatta assumed his full constitutional authority as the President.
According to Statehouse Spokesman Manoah Esipisu, President Uhuru immediately “resumed substantive duties after attending the ICC Status Conference as a private citizen”.
Already presidential motorcade that had been at the service of DP Ruto had returned to State House by Wednesday evening.
Following the expiry of the period in which Ruto served as the Acting President, he is scheduled to hand over to Uhuru upon the latter’s arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport Thursday morning.
“The DP will receive him (President Uhuru) and hand in a brief which contains returns for the period that he exercised Presidential Authority.” Reads a tweet from the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU).
