Olympian Julius Yego won the javelin gold medal after finishing fourth at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia, last year.
Yego, a police officer attached to Criminal Investigations Department wing, threw 83.87 while Walcott Keshon of Trinidad and Tobago settled for silver (82.67) and Peacock Hamish of Australia (81.75m) for bronze.
In Moscow, Yego nearly provided the most heart-warming moment of all nine days of pulsating action.
He hurled a national record of 85.40 metres in the fifth round but his medal dreams were dashed as home thrower Dmitri Tarabin launched the spear out to 86.23m to deny him podium finish.
