Nandi Senator Stephen Sang has criticised President Uhuru Kenyatta for assenting into law Bills that have not been scrutinised by the Senate after approval by the National Assembly.
Speaking in his home turf at the weekend, Mr Sang said Uhuru may face impeachment or face charges of abuse of office for allegedly consistently flouting the Constitution when assenting to the Bills.
According to the legislator, the Senate has frequently been side-stepped in the legislative process.
“The President should stop this trend with immediate effect because it is tantamount to passing of unconstitutional laws,” he said.
Sang was reacting to area Governor Cleophas Lagat’s remarks that the Senate had failed to protect the interests of the counties.

Lagat hit out at Senate for allegedly failing to push for additional funding to the counties.
“Sadly, the President’s move to pass Bills into laws has made the Senate look irrelevant, especially with regard to protection of the counties,” he said.
