Laikipia, Kenya: A member of Laikipia County Assembly was today arraigned in a Nyahururu court for assaulting a county askari.
Ol Moran ward county representative Duncan Ndegwa appeared before Nyahururu resident magistrate Victoria Ochanda where he faced charges of assault and obstructing a public officer from perfoming his duties.
Ironically, the county assembly member is the chairman of the county security committee.
The court heard that Ndegwa assaulted the askari on March 17 this year and injured him while he was discharging his duties.

On that particular day, the askari Paul Kiprop had gone to issue a bond to bar a businessman at Sipili trading centre from constructing a premises.
The businessman Joseph Ndirangu had not obtained a permit from the county government.
It was then that the ward representative arrived accompanied by his supporters and started attacking the askari.
According to the charge sheet, he snatched the askari’s cell phone before a struggle ensued.
The accused denied the charges and was released on a Sh 100,000 bond.
The case will be heard on June 3 this year.
