Kwale, Kenya: A girls’ secondary school in Kwale County, in which 26 students perished in a dormitory inferno 16 years ago has benefited from a hostel built by the European Union.
Mazeras Girls Memorial Secondary School, Kinango, whose memory of the burnt students still linger in minds years later were all smiles as EU handed over a completed dormitory worth Sh5.4 million to accommodate 80 students.
Before the fire tragedy, the school was known as Bombolulu Girls Secondary School. The school is the only girls’ boarding secondary school in Kinango, Kwale County.
The dormitory was handed over by EU head of Environment and Social Affairs Hjordis Ogendo.
