NAIROBI, KENYA: United Kingdom’s Minister for Africa Mark Simmonds will represent the British Government at Kenya’s 50th anniversary celebrations on Thursday.
As part of this, on Wednesday 11 December Mr Simmonds will launch a book called ‘Nairobi: Then and Now’ at the High Commissioner’s Muthaiga Residence at 12 midday.
The book, sponsored by the British High Commission as part of Kenya@50, is a series of historical photos of old Nairobi, juxtaposed with modern day pictures at the same scenes, to illustrate the growth of Nairobi.
The foreword of the book is co-authored by British High Commissioner Dr Christian Turner and Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero.

During the event, Minister Simmonds will also read out a message from Her Majesty The Queen congratulating Kenyans on 50 years of Independence.
The event will be attended by the Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture & Art Dr Hassan Waario and Dr. Kidero and the two are expected to make remarks at the event.
