Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has criticised Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) boss’s recent statement that the union should keep off exam matters.

Kuppet Chairman Omboko Milemba accused KNEC Chief Executive Officer Paul Wasanga of arrogance in handling of the standoff between exam markers and the council.

The exam markers want the rates increased and payments made promptly, and Kuppet has threatened to mobilise its members to boycott marking the papers if their demands are not met.

Kuppet accuses KNEC of underpaying the exam markers and is demanding 300 per cent increment in marking and coordination fee.

Milemba, who spoke at the union’s offices in Nairobi, also warned the council against employing non-teachers to mark the tests.

He said the union would hold meetings in all counties from November 3 to mobilise its members to boycott marking the tests, which is scheduled to begin on December 12.

“Wasanga is behaving arrogantly in dealing with this matter. Kuppet doesn’t fear him,” said Milemba.
