Muhoroni Youth registered a crucial win beating Naivasha based Karuturi Sports 1-0 in Muhoroni to start inching away from the relegation zone in Kenya Premeier League at Muhoroni Stadium.
Hosts Muhoroni playing before scores of eager and enthusiastic home fans dominated proceedings in the first-half during the match officiated by Nyeri-based central referee George Mwai.
Muhoroni dominated through the sterling of offensive midfielder Ezekiel Otuoma and Kennedy Odiwour. Their efforts were thwarted by the flowermens’ defence of Andrew Mbwabi and Geoffrey Msiebe as the visitors custodian Michael Wanyika remained hawk-eyed.
Lethal players like Collins Neto was brought in on resumption of second half. The hosts efforts paid dividend with Neto supporting Enos Ochieng to notch the all-important goal in the 65th minute. Vantage positioned Ochieng headed in the ball looped into his far corner post by Otuoma.
Speaking to FeverPitch after the tie Muhoroni director Moses Adagala lauded the team for winning the crucial home match and also exuded confidence that the Nyando Sugarbelt side will conclude this year’s KPL the top eight teams qualifying to feature in next year’s Super 8 Tournament.
At Bukhungu Stadium, Western Stima held Mathare United to a barren draw in a another KPL fixture yesterday.
Following, midday downpour, the ground was slippery forcing both teams to struggle to maintain ball control.
The Mathare United goal keeper did a tremendous job keeping the balls away from the goal as Stima repeatedly penetrated the defence and hammered away at him.
Mathare coach, Stanely Okumbi speaking after the game said, “It was a tough game and the surface made it even tougher.”
Stima coach Francis Baraza quipped, “It was a good game and I am happy with the way my boys played.
