Shock as mentally ill man commits suicide inside doctors room

Lamu, Kenya: There was shock at Mpeketoni District Hospital in Lamu county after a mentally sick man committed suicide inside the facility on Tuesday.

Before killing himself, the unnamed man allegedly stormed the local police station demanding to be arrested and when this was declined, he strayed into the hospital to meet his bloody end.

According to eye witnesses, the middle aged man entered into one of the doctor's rooms and locked himself in while he was away.

When the doctor returned, he was shocked to learn that his office had been locked from inside.

The doctor is said to have alerted security guards at the hospital who broke the door only to find the man already dead.

The deceased is reported to have stabbed himself severally using a surgical knife and scissors before hanging himself using an electric cable.

Police were later called in and took the body to the mortuary.

Lamu County Commissioner Stephen Ikua said police have launched investigation to establish why the man committed suicide.
