Government to reclaim illegally acquired land

KWALE; KENYA: Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu has assured Kenyans that land issues will be streamlined and illegally acquired title deeds revoked.

The Lands Cabinet Secretary said she has been directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to carry out a comprehensive audit of land records in the Coast region to ensure genuine land owners are not denied their right.

“I have been directed to ensure that no one benefits from irregular
allocation of lands and title deeds that were issued irregularly revoked,” Ms Ngilu said.

The Lands Cabinet Secretary spoke on Monday in Kwale town where President Uhuru presided over issuance of title deeds to land owners in Kwale County.

She urged prominent people who grabbed or were irregularly allocated land to surrender it to the Government or risk being named and shamed.
 

Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko surrendered to the Government a piece of land worth Sh9 million. The land was sold to him by a former Member of Parliament in Kwale County.

Mr Sonko supported calls for repossession of illegally acquired land in the Coast region, regretting that some powerful individuals were denying squatters their right to own land

The Nairobi Senator took a swipe at politicians who were using abusive language to tarnish the issuance of title deeds in Coast region.

Speaking during the occasion, Kwale leaders led Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya said they would work closely with President Uhuru and Deputy President Ruto in serving the residents of Kwale County.
