Home player handicap 16 Hannah Rutenbar emerged the overall winner of the Kenya Forest Service golf tournament at the Kitale Golf Club on Saturday.

Rutenbar scored an impressive 38 points, getting 19 on the first nine and the same points in the second. She attributed her performance to regular training and thanked the green keeper for doing a good job of maintaining the course.

S. Malakwen, handicap 18, was runner-up with a point adrift of the winner (37). The third prize went to handicap eight Wycliffe Kamanga with 36 points.

The fourth overall winner was handicap 11 Peter Koech with 35 points edging out Charles Yano who had 33 points. Rimal Shah with 31 points had to settle for the sixth slot.

The guest winner was Onesmus Kibuna with the lady winner trophy going to Clara Chesire with 26 points. The first nine was won by Duke Saisi with 19 points and the second nine winner was Philip Shiharsy with 14 points.

Next round

The next KFS Golf Day event will be at the Nyali Golf and Country Club on September 21.

At the par 73 Nakuru Golf Club, Dominic Walubengo  beat a team of 160 players with 39 stableford points to emerge the overall winner  of the third leg Barclays Circuit tournament played on Saturday.

The handicap 22 golfer will now lead a team of 16 from Rift Valley to the finals in February.

In both nines, Walubengo, who is Njoro Golf Club Chairman, braved stiff competition from home players hitting 20 and 19 points to claim the victory.

“I did not expect to win.  I was playing easy, just the normal game,” said  Walubengo.

Handicap 10 Paul Muhia posted a two way count back score of 36 points from 20 and 19 points in both rounds to claim the runners up slot. He had tied on the same points with third placed handicap 10 Stanley Kirui.

Level on points

Pancras Kuria and club captain Njuguna Njoka tied on a back-to-back countback of 35 points to finish fourth and fifth respectively. Handicap 32 Margaret Cheptumo, who had the best day’s score of 42 was the lady winner having posted 14 and an impressive 28 points in first and second nines.

Susan Gichuki, handicap 20, was the lady runner-up on 36 points while school boy Mark Njuguna, playing off handicap 29, finished with a score of 35 points to claim the best junior prize. He posted a 17-12 in both nines while Peter Macharia won the guest prize on 35 points.

Barclays Consumer Banking director Zahid Mustapha playing off handicap 24 scored 34 points to claim the staff prize with Sam Munyua coming second on 30 points. The overall winner in the finals will get a fully paid golfing tour in South Africa, while the top 20 will play at next year’s Barclays Kenya Open Golf Pro-Am in February.
