International flights resume at JKIA

NAIROBI, KENYA: International flights are expected to resume on Thursday at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after Wednesday’s inferno that destroyed the entire arrivals terminal.

A statement released by Kenya Airways CEO Titus Naikuni indicated that nine flights will take off on Thursday.

The domestic departure unit will be used for international departures until further notice.

“Domestic Unit 3 will be used for international departure through gate 3 until further notice,” Kenya Airways Corporate Communications Manager Kepha Bosire told The Standard Digital.

The first international flight to take off from JKIA is KQ762 heading to Johannesburg.

The Other flights are PW 750 which will depart for Mwanza at 11am, PW710 (Dar-Es-Salaam via Zanzibar), KQ412 (Entebbe), KQ482 (Dar-Es-Salaam), KQ202 (Bombay), KQ310 (Dubai), KQ112 (Paris-Charles De Gaulle) and KQ102 heading to Heathrow in London.

Naikuni however said other flights remain suspended until further notice.

Meanwhile, local flights continued to take off from the cargo terminal.

The flights departed to Mombasa, Eldoret and Kisumu international airports.

Seven flights are expected to depart for Mombasa while 10 flights will fly into JKIA from Mombasa.

Three flights will take off to Kisumu and two to Eldoret.

Only passengers with confirmed tickets will be accommodated in the domestic flights as Kenya Airways stated it did not have ticketing service.
