Nairobi,Kenya; Chemelil Sugar recovered from their 1-2 loss against Thika United to beat Home Boyz 1-0 under their former tactician Edward Manoah, in a Tusker Premier League match at Chemelil Sports Complex.

The Nyando-based millers yesterday looked eager to atone for their recent loss against Thika, who broke their unbeaten run in the league’s first leg.

Chemelil dominated proceedings during most of the first-half.

The millers’ lanky attacking midfielder Daniel Mutai missed an opener in the seventh minute with only Homeboyz custodian John Wahu in goal to beat after a superb pass by Geson Likhonoh.

After the break, Chemelil Sugar, previously coached by Manoah, maintained their dominance over Homeboyz with the latter ferociously counter-attacking in the 51st minute through Paul Odhiambo, who missed with only custodian Jairus Adira to beat.

Ruffled by Homeboyz brief moment of resurgence, Chemelil coach Mike Mururi brought in John Onami, Steve Wakanya and Tony Opondo forJohn Mwita, Daniel Mutai and James Macharia.

This added punch to the Chemelil arsenal with Opondo scoring the all-important goal in the 60th minute  following spadework by Onami during the match well officiated by Nairobi-based central referee Tabitha Wamboi.

In Naivasha, Karuturi Sports forced Mathare United to a barren draw in fast-paced Tusker Kenyan Premier League match at Old Trafford Stadium in Naivasha yesterday.

Both teams displayed some good football artistry, but the slum boys were the main losers.

Mathare United lost a penalty in the 38th minute after Karuturi custodian Noah Ayuko blocked Kevin Ochieng’s shot.

Goalkeeper Ayuko fouled striker Meshack Karani for the referee to point at the spot.

Ochieng’ and Karani were to blame for the number of missed chances by Mathare United.

On their part, Karuturi Sports concentrated on defensive play and only managed two good chances in the entire match, the first one coming in the 23rd minute when United’s custodian Joseph Ruto stopped Francis Masiga’s hard drive.
